UNDERSTANDING SALVATION

Salvation is Understandable (makes sense)

· Salvation is the work of our wise and orderly God, the creator of the universe.

· Salvation makes sense to those that are saved.  (1 Corinthians 1:18  For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.)

· Salvation is not superstition; it is based on the real work of God.  (His Story)

OUR NEED FOR SALVATION

Fallen and Sinful Man        

Romans 3:10-12  As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one;  11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God.  12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one." 

Romans 3:23  For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,  .  .  .

God’s Righteousness Requires Justice  

Ecclesiastes 12:14  For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GOD SENDS HIS SON

Mercy and Grace at the Cross                          

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit. (Psalms 34:18 NKJV)

.  . if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."  (Romans 10:9-11 NKJV)

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8, 9 NKJV)

ASSURANCE OF SALVATION

And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. (John 10:28, 29 NKJV)

For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. (Romans 10:13 NKJV)

Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame."(1 Peter 2:6 NKJV)

Adoption as Children of God

All of Your Sins are Forgiven

He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:19 NKJV)

I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.

Sealed with the Holy Spirit

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13,14 NKJV)

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.  And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:30-32 NKJV)

New Creation / Born-again

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)

But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.  Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,  .  .
